On-campus unit delivery combines face-to-face and digital learning.
Aims and objectives
This unit provides students with an overview of the ways in which the media industries are being transformed by the rise of multiple platforms for content creation and distribution. Students will consider how older distribution models such as broadcast and print are being challenged by the use of new platforms enabled by the Internet. They will examine the broader conceptual and theoretical concerns that attend such transformations, and analyse questions relating to changed modes of cooperation and collaboration made possible by these platforms. They will also develop the necessary technical skills in content creation and distribution to work effectively in a changing media production landscape.
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. Critically analyse and evaluate a wide range of networked resources used by contemporary media professionals.
2. Apply new interview techniques to a level acceptable by stakeholders in the field.
3. Use tools and techniques to create new written texts, still images, infographics, audio content and video content.
4. Identify and critically evaluate ways to repurpose and diversify written, image and audio content easily and quickly across industry-adopted publishing platforms such as hard-copy, big screen, desktop, mobile, and tablet.
5. Apply appropriate methods for repurposing and diversifying content across a range of media platforms.
